Typing Journey is a complete touch-typing curriculum that runs in the browser โ nothing to install, nothing to buy, and no student accounts required. Open the site, and your class is typing in under a minute.
The full curriculum, test and game are free for school use. No per-seat licenses, no feature paywalls, no trial clocks.
Students start instantly as guests โ no rostering, no passwords for a teacher to reset, no class codes to manage.
Guest progress lives in the student's own browser, on the school device โ it is never sent to us. That makes privacy reviews refreshingly short.
Chromebooks, Windows, Mac, iPads and Android tablets โ if it has a browser and a keyboard, it runs Typing Journey.
For students who move between devices, a free email account saves progress across computers. Entirely optional โ learning never requires it.
The 1-minute test prints a named certificate with WPM and accuracy โ tangible proof of growth for portfolios and proud fridges.
Students open typingjourney.com and tap Start Lesson 1. No logins, no setup โ under a minute from bell to typing.
The journey map sequences everything: home row โ top row โ bottom row โ full keyboard. Students always know their next stop.
Short daily practice beats long weekly blocks. A lesson takes 2โ4 minutes; a session of 3โ4 stops builds real muscle memory.
Friday test day: students take the 1-minute test and print their certificate. Speeds climb visibly week over week.

Every lesson shows the next key and the correct finger on an on-screen keyboard, and awards 1โ3 stars based on accuracy first, then speed โ reinforcing proper technique over sloppy rushing.
No. Learning is 100% account-free: students play as guests and progress is stored on the device itself. An optional free account (email + password) exists only for students who want their progress saved across different computers โ for example, school Chromebook by day, home computer by night.
None for guests โ there is nothing to collect, because progress never leaves the device. For optional accounts we store only the email address, a securely hashed password, and the typing progress itself. No names, no birthdays, no advertising trackers, no data selling. Ever.
On a shared device, the Progress page shows lessons completed, stars, best test scores and practice streaks for whoever used that browser. Printable test certificates give students a take-home record, and students with optional accounts carry their progress with them from device to device.
Any modern browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari) on Chromebooks, Windows, macOS, iPads and Android tablets. A physical keyboard is recommended for lessons โ that's where the muscle memory forms.
Yes โ lessons, tests, games and certificates are free for classroom and district use. If your district needs a formal agreement or a privacy document signed, contact us and we'll sort it out.
Absolutely โ that's where the optional account shines. Students sign in at home and their stars and streaks are right where they left them at school.
Start today โ there is nothing to set up. Or write to us about district rollouts, privacy documentation, and feedback from your classrooms.
